Here at Ampa, we understand the importance of being environmentally conscious. Keeping that in mind, we have setup a program of simple steps that we take within our day-to-day operations to help reduce our footprint on the environment. Sure, there's always something more that can be done to work towards sustainability, but we feel the most important thing is to do something. Small steps in the right direction are always better than not doing anything at all. Furthermore, choosing to participate in green business practices isn't only beneficial to the planet, but to a company budget as well and this helps us to provide better service to our clients. Here are some things that we are doing to make our business more sustainable everyday.
Saving Paper
Even though its one of the easiest materials to recycle, we try to use a little paper as possible. When it comes to printing, we use both sides of the paper to help reduce waste. We also don't print every e-mail or file that happens to come our way, we try to be selective as to what is printed. Keeping this in mind, we also prefer to use files in digital format rather than printed.
Energy Conservation
Another area of importance here at Ampa is power management with our equipment for energy efficiency. We have previously replaced inefficient equipment as well as began paying closer attention to turning off lights and office equipment while our office is closed. Other small steps include setting computers and monitors to go into Sleep Mode after a few minutes of inactivity. It even makes a difference to unplug equipment that isn't being used as they still draw energy even though they're turned off.
We also make it a point to purchase Energy Star rated products to help save energy with the equipment that we are using. Flourescent light throughout our office and warehouse helps to contribute to the cause.
We have even started to apply our green way of thinking to our event services. We have recently made a progressive effort to replace our lighting equipment with LEDs. This equipment not only requirements less energy for operation, but also doesn't need to be replaced close to as often as a common light bulb which helps us to produce less waste.
Recycling
This is one of the green business practices that we take most seriously here at Ampa. To help leave a smaller foot print on the environment, we feel is important not to waste anything. To increase the effeciency of this practice, we have various recycling bins in convenient locations throughout our office. Rather than just throwing things away, we recycle everything, whether it be paper, glass, aluminum, steel, plastics, or even wood. Recycling never seems like a chore when its easier than throwing something away!
This practice is applied to work in our scene shop as well as the office. While working on projects we try to design in order to maximize materials which in return helps to reduce waste. Any scraps we have left over we then save for later use. This applies not only to wood, but any other materials used in the project. Anything that can be re-used, will be re-used.
